英语民间故事DogedogDogedog　　Dogedoghadalwaysbeenverylazy,andnowthathisfatherandmotherweredeadandhehadnoonetocareforhim,helivedverypoorly.Hehadlittletoeat.Hishousewasoldandsmallandsopoorthatithadnotevenafloor.Stillhewouldrathersitalldayandidleawayhistimethantoworkandhavemorethings.　　Oneday,however,whentherainyseasonwasnearathand,Dogedogbeganthinkinghowcoldhewouldbewhenthestormscame,andhefeltsosorryforhimselfthathedecidedtomakeafloorinhishouse.　　Wrappingsomericeinabananaleafforhisdinner,hetookhislongknifeandwenttotheforesttocutsomebamboo.Hehungthebundleofriceinatreeuntilheshouldneedit;butwhilehewasworkingacatcameandateit.Whenthehungrymancameforhisdinner,therewasnoneleft.Dogedogwentbacktohismiserablelittlehousewhichlookedforlorntohimeven,nowthathehaddecidedtohaveafloor. 　　Thenextdayhewentagaintotheforestandhunghisriceinthetreeashedidbefore,butagainthecatcameandateit.Sothemanhadtogohomewithoutanydinner.　　Thethirddayhetooktherice,butthistimehefixedatrapinthetree,andwhenthecatcameitwascaught.　　"NowIhaveyou!"criedthemanwhenhefoundthecat;"andIshallkillyouforstealingmyrice."　　"Oh,donotkillme,"pleadedthecat,"andIwillbeofsomeusetoyou."　　SoDogedogdecidedtosparethecat"slife,andhetookithomeandtieditnearthedoortoguardthehouse.　　Sometimelaterwhenhewenttolookatit,hewasverymuchsurprisedtofindthatithadbecomeacock.　　"NowIcangotothecock-fightatMagsingal,"criedtheman.Andhewasveryhappy,forhehadmuchratherdothatthanwork.　　Thinkingnomoreofgettingwoodforhisfloor,hestartedoutatonceforMagsingalwiththecockunderhisarm. 　　Ashewascrossingariverhemetanalligatorwhichcalledouttohim:"Whereareyougoing,"Dogedog?"　　"Tothecock-fightatMagsingal,"repliedthemanashefondlystrokedtherooster.　　"Wait,andIwillgowithyou,"saidthealligator;andhedrewhimselfoutofthewater.　　Thetwowalkingtogethersoonenteredaforestwheretheymetadeeranditasked:"Whereareyougoing,Dogedog?"　　"Tothecock-fightatMagsingal,"saidtheman.　　"WaitandIwillgowithyou,"saidthedeer;andhealsojoinedthem.　　Byandbytheymetamoundofearththathadbeenraisedbytheants,andtheywouldhavepassedwithoutnoticingithaditnotinquired:"Whereareyougoing,Dogedog?"　　"Tothecock-fightatMagsingal,"saidthemanoncemore;andthemoundofearthjoinedthem.　　Thecomp 　　anythenhurriedon,andjustastheywereleavingtheforest,theypassedabigtreeinwhichwasamonkey."Whereareyougoing,Dogedog?"shriekedthemonkey.Andwithoutwaitingforananswer,hescrambleddownthetreeandfollowedthem.　　Asthepartywalkedalongtheytalkedtogether,andthealligatorsaidtoDogedog:"Ifanymanwantstodiveintothewater,Icanstayunderlongerthanhe."　　Thenthedeer,nottobeoutdone,said:"Ifanymanwantstorun,Icanrunfaster."　　Themoundofearth,anxioustoshowitsstrength,said:"Ifanymanwantstowrestle,Icanbeathim."　　Andthemonkeysaid:"Ifanymanwantstoclimb,Icangohigher."　　TheyreachedMagsingalingoodtimeandthepeoplewerereadyforthefighttobegin.WhenDogedogputhisrooster,whichhadbeenacat,intothepit,itkilledtheothercockatonce,forituseditsclawslikeacat.　　Thepeoplebroughtmoreroostersandwageredmuchmoney,butDogedog"scockkilledalltheothersuntiltherewasnotoneleftinMagsingal,andDogedogwonmuchmoney.Thentheywentoutside thetownandbroughtallthecockstheycouldfind,butnotonecouldwinoverthatofDogedog.　　Whenthecockswerealldead,thepeoplewantedsomeothersport,sotheybroughtamanwhocouldstayunderwaterforalongtime,andDogedogmadehimcompetewiththealligator.Butafterawhilethemanhadtocomeupfirst.Thentheybroughtaswiftrunnerandheracedwiththedeer,butthemanwasleftfarbehind.Nexttheylookedarounduntiltheyfoundaverylargemanwhowaswillingtocontendwiththemoundofearth,butafterahardstrugglethemanwasthrown.Finallytheybroughtamanwhocouldclimbhigherthananyoneelse,butthemonkeywentfarabovehim,andhehadtogiveup.　　AllthesecontestshadbroughtmuchmoneytoDogedog,andnowhehadtobuytwohorsestocarryhissacksofsilver.Assoonashereachedhome,heboughtthehouseofaveryrichmanandwenttoliveinit.Andhewasveryhappy,forhedidnothavetoworkanymore.
